Meeting 12 September 2020



Introduction

This, the 108th meeting of the London Youlan Qin Society, was held online using Zoom. It was the third time our society has held a yaji meeting online, and it enabled many qin friends around the world to join our meeting, from Japan, China, Thailand, the USA, Ireland and France as well as the UK. We had approximately 75 attendees. The yaji was also streamed on the Society's Facebook page. This enabled over 500 additional people to watch the yaji.

The meeting began at 1 pm UK time and ended at approximately 4 pm. Cheng Yu introduced the yaji and welcomed everybody. Master Gong Yi had recorded a special message for us as he was unable to join us, and this was played, as was his qin performance. Our other special guests were Gao Yusheng, head of 日本古琴辰興会 (Japan Society for the Promotions of Guqin), and American qin researcher and player John Thompson. John discussed the structure of Jieshi Diao You Lan and explained why it may be connected with Cao Cao, before playing his recently revised reconstruction of the piece.
