Meeting 14 January 2017

Introduction

This, the 86th meeting of the London Youlan Qin Society, was held in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Summary of the AGM

The Society's sixth AGM was held during this meeting.

2016 was a good, steady year. We successfully organised our Guqin Summer School at the China Exchange in London's Chinatown, taught by Dr Cheng Yu and Charles Tsua. This included a concert , which was performed to a full house by members of LYQS, Dr Cheng Yu and guest musicians. Mr Lu Haitian, Councillor at the Overseas Affairs Office, was an official guest at the concert and gave a speech. The Xinhua UK News Agency filmed interviews with LYQS members and broadcast a 5-6 minute news item about the Society in several provinces in China. We had two special yaji meetings. Our July yaji was held at Asia House, as part of their Buddhism Festival. Dr Liang Jiyong from Guangzhou gave a talk about qin master Pu Xuezhai. The other, in August, held at the home of one of our members, enabled members to meet qin scholar Yip Mingmei from New York. She gave a talk on the subject of "Beautiful Hands - Finger Configuration and its Philosophical Symbolism in Qin Music”.

The 3-year term of office for all Committee members expired at this AGM. All were re-elected, and one new person, Fu Yingbai, was newly elected to the Committee.
