This, the 47th meeting of the London Youlan Qin Society, was held at the home of was held at the home of Julian Joseph in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

Introduction

This yaji as usual, was informal.

Music

The following music was played:
  1. Bi  Jian Liu Quan 碧 涧流泉 (A Stream Flowing in a Green Valley), played by Ashley Guan *
  2. Xian Weng Cao 孤 馆遇神 (Meeting Ghosts in a Deserted House), played by Michel Lee *
  3. Zui Yu Chang Wan 醉渔场晚 (Drunken Fishermen Singing in the Evening) played by Julian Joseph *
  4. Wo Long Yin 卧龙吟 (Crouching Dragon) Played by Chak Hum *
  5. Bi Jian Liu Quan 碧 涧流 泉 (A Spring Flowing in a Green Valley), played by Ashley Guan %
  6. Midare 乱れ (Chaos),  played by Ayako Hotta-Lister (koto)
    This is a danmono (a type of instrumental piece consisting of a number of sections, each of 52 measures) composed in the 17th century by Yatsuhashi Kengyo. Its title is derived from the fact that its sections have a slightly different number of measures. A danmono begins slowly, builds up, and finishes slowly.
  7. Yu Gao 夕 顔 (Evening Glory), played by Ayako Hotta-Lister (koto)
    Yugao is the name of a lady in the  novel Tale of Genji, written by Japanese court lady 1002 years ago. A morning glory flowers in the morning and is dead by lunchtime; an evening glory flowers in the evening but dies by the end of the evening. It symbolises a woman's life. The music describes the death of Yugao in the arms of her lover, Prince Genji.
