This, the 37th meeting of the London Youlan Qin Society, was held at the home of Sarah Moyse in Southwest London.

Introduction

This yaji, as always, was very informal. As we were a very small group this time, all players played several pieces.

Music

The following music was played:
  1. Yi Guren 亿故人 (Memories of an Old Friend), played by Jenny Zhao (qin) and Dennis Lee (xiao)
(Meeting Ghosts in a Deserted House), played by Julian Joseph
(Wild Geese Landing on the Level Sand), played by Cheng Yu (qin) and Dennis Lee (xiao)
(A Spring Flowing over Stones), played by Julian Joseph
(Evening Song of the Drunken Fishermen) played by Jenny Zhao
  6. Qiu Feng Ci 秋风词 (Ode to the Autumn Wind), played by Dan Nung Ing
  7. Tian Lai 天籁 (Sounds of Nature), played by Julian Joseph
  8. Jiu Kuang 酒狂 (Drunken Ecstasy) played by Cheng Yu
(Three Variations on the Yang Pass Theme), played by Christopher Evans
(Three Variations on the Plum Blossom Theme), played by Cheng Yu (qin) and Dennis Lee (xiao)
All pieces were played on a qin made by Zeng Chengwei and fitted with NAGA New Silk Strings. These are a new type of silk string, recently developed by the North American Guqin Association (NAGA), that combines the strength and stability of steel-nylon strings with the sound quality of the best silk strings. They generated a lot of interest and there was much discussion about them. Everybody admired their sound and wanted to fit them on their own qins.
