This, the 20th meeting of the London Youlan Qin Society, was held at the home of Cheng Yu in central London.


Introduction

We were delighted to welcome qin player, scholar and silk string maker Fred Wong (Huang Shuzhi) and his wife from Canada.

Programme

After a delicious lunch, Mr Wong gave a talk about silk strings. Afterwards, he and his wife played a piece each. Mr Wong played Yuqiao Wen Da 渔樵问答 (Dialogue of the Fisherman and the Woodcutter) on a Qing Dynasty qin. His wife played Qiu Sai Yin 秋塞吟 (Autumn Thoughts from Across the Border) on a jiaoye (plantain leaf) style qin made by her teacher Wu Jinglue (the only surviving one of a number of qins he made that is definitely attributable to him).
