Your privacy

Our website, like almost all other sites, uses cookies, small text files placed on your computer, mobile phone or other device that help the site work smoothly for you and allow us to collect and analyse statistics about who visits it. These statistics are anonymous and the cookies do not collect or transmit any information that could identify you personally.

Data protection policy

What data we collect and why

When you become a full member or associate member of the LYQS, we collect some personal information from you on the application form (name, postal address, telephone number, email address, web site address and qin interest). We collect only the information we need to give you the benefits of membership - to contact you, organise events for you and update you on important Society matters requiring your attention. If you are on our mailing list but are not a member, then we only have your name and email address for the purpose of informing you of events and relevant news.

At Society events we may also take photographs or videos in which you appear and publish them on this website or on social media pages.

How we protect your data

We will keep your information secure offline and will not share it with anyone who is not a Society member for marketing or any other purpose without your specific consent.

Your rights over your data

You can ask to see the information we hold about you at any time, and have it corrected or deleted from our stored records within 30 days of a request in writing to the Society Secretary. You can also ask to have a copy of your information. When you leave the Society, we will destroy your application form and delete your personal information from our digital records unless you give us permission to do otherwise.

If you do not want your photo or video to be used in the ways described above, please let the Secretary know, preferably before or during recording at events so that we can accommodate your request within reason (i.e. by avoiding filming you etc).
